    HOG DOG

    Five young boys

    One black dog

    A DARK cave

    C-R-E-E-P in!

    Look around

    Dog follows

    Dog BRUSHES leg

    What’s that?

    Dog

    Hog?

    H-O-G!

    R-U-N!

    Five young boys

    One black dog

    Outside cave

This poem is based on a true story.  I wrote this after taking a walk with my friend Stephanie and her three sons:  James, Nick and Mathew.  I happened to have my two young nephews Josh and Kyle with me.

What a memorable walk this was in the local hills of San Luis Obispo.

    Josh & Kyle

Here is a poem I wrote for my niece:

    THE VEGETARIAN

    For Sarah

The mother waited for the water to boil

The child played at her feet

The husband sat the lobster on the floor

    New playmates

    Watch them dance the crawl

When mom went to cook them

    The child screamed in pain

Mom, dad and child ate late that night

They were busy returning new playmates to their home

Lobster and meat never more touched the child’s plate

    Ever after vegetarian
